Final destination..?
Tuesday April 10
The Madrilenian, big city, life is not always what I had expected of it. My work is rather boring, the weather is disappointing, the language is still a big obstacle and it turns out to be very hard to find people to hang out with. Okay... I do have one great Spanish friend, that's Carlos! He is always very good to me, and we are having great parties together!! But in general the people here are clearly not in need of any new people around. They have big groups of friends and they are real family people, and there is simply no need for them to meet new people. I'm finally getting somewhere, but for me it is al going to slow.
The foreigners I have met here, are experiencing the same. Even for those who do speak the language, it seems to be a matter of a lot of patience. One of my Spanish colleagues told me, it took him two years to find himself some friends in Madrid, when he first came here from another part of the country.
I do really like the city though. It is so full of life! It's just a pity that all this life and energy seems to pass me by without touching me. I know as well, that this is a beautiful country, with so many things to see, but is it any fun when you have to travel it by yourself?
I'm starting to wonder if this will be my final destination. There are so many obstacles to overcome.
I notice that I am looking for escapes. Good excuses to be somewhere else. Tomorrow I'm going to Rotterdam for a few days, I already booked my flight to Dubai, where I will spend my holiday with my best friend in June, and I just came back a few weeks ago from Egypt, a holiday as well, which was very very nice. I have been at the 'kings-valley', the temples of Luxor and I have my diving-license now!
Do I have anything to complain about....

hey Merle!
We just got back from Dominican Republic! And did the diving as well. Super-duper :))) But we didn't do the license fully, only for this one time, didn't want to spend too much time in the pool learning :)
