Good news for travellers!

Friday November 17

Great news, lowcost airline RyanAir just opened several new routes, which means they are flying to Madrid starting November 22!!
It's not very hard to pick some dates and fly for 20 euro (taxen incl) round trip to Madrid from places all over Europe. One of this places is Eindhoven.
Thanks brother, for this great tip!!

Sight seeing

Monday November 13

Now that I'm living in Spain, I figured it might be a good idea to travel a bit around. Hardly unpacked my stuff from my week in Mallorca, my flatmate Roberto and I decided to step out of the busy life in Madrid and visit some other cities in Spain.
We rented a car and went to see Segovia and Salamanca, around two hours drive from here.
These are both historic cities, with lots of amazing places old civilisations left for us to admire.

roman aquadact, a cathedral and a castle in Segovia

On top of that, Salamanca, the place where we stayed the night, has a very lifely bar and disco scene at night.
A good reason to go back one day , because this time the too heavy (not to say fat) dinner stopped us from enjoying it.
Roberto always knows exactly where the good restaurants are.... ;)

Mallorca

Wednesday November 8

One thing I didn't had to worry about during my trip to Mallorca was the language. My Spanish is still limited to saying good morning, the days of the week and counting till 100, but that is no problem for most people working or celebrating in Mallorca. 99% speaks very good ... German, and some also English.

Even when I was stopped by two local officers on my first day driving in Spain, I was "lucky" to have two English speakers. They had no problem explaining me what exactly I did wrong, and telling me how much I had to pay. And because I didn't have the money in cash, they also had no problem taking me to the station. An hour later and 60 euro's lighter I was back on track...
After two days in Palma de Mallorca I decided to skip Ibiza and stay on Mallorca to make a trip around the island. The west side of the island is very different from the rest of it, not much tourism, no white beaches, no boulevards to stroll, very mountainous but very beautifull.

Palma's Cathedral ... the beautifull west side ... my west-side story...

North and east Mallorca is full of (German and English) tourists, well at least is it in summer. The day I arrived to the northern part the people working in the, now empty, hotels, told me this was the last day of the season. So I celebrated 'the last day of the season' with the local people, and was left on an almost empty island the next day.....
I visited a ancient cave, were everybody spoke German, and went on to the east part, where I stayed one day and the last days in the southern part, where I even met some Dutch people living there.
Mallorca sure is a great place to visit, but I would recommend summer.... I'll definately try to get back for a weekend next summer.

beach in the North (Ca'n picafort) ....... view from my balcony (Cala Millor, east mallorca)

my hotel for the last few days... (El Arenal, south). It had everything! a lot of people (all over 65) and a swimming pool (but it started raining)... haha, you can't have it all!

More Mallorca
